    Welsh National Flag

    Wales Dragon Flag

The Ddraig Goch (red dragon) flag has been recognised as the national flag of Wales since the 1950s. The white-over-green field is the livery colours of the Tudors, the Welsh dynasty that once sat on the English throne. Over the white-over-green field is a large red dragon passant. The Red Dragon is one of the most ancient emblems. It was brought to Britain by the Romans, who had copied it from the Parthians and it was used by both British and Saxon Kings. According to tradition it was used by Arthur and it was also the standard of Cadwalladr, from whom the Tudors were descended. It was also used by Henry VII at the Battle of the Roses. When Henry VII became King of England in 1485, he decreed that the Red Dragon should be known as the official flag of Wales.
