In the days of the legendary Rob Roy: Scottish cattle drovers, after a long hard day of driving the herds, relished a stopover at an inn where they could get a hot meal and pint of good Scottish ale. The tavern stew was a highly nutritious and flavorful dish with a "stick-to-the-ribs" quality that kept the drovers coming back for more.

Just about everyone we know loves Irish stew, and for quite some time our customers asked Caledonian Kitchen to make version. After a long labor of love that involved a lot of research and testing, we came up with a unique cooking process that produces the thick, savory broth characteristic of the best Irish stews.
This version of our Irish stew was inspired by a County Antrim farmhouse recipe. It features our high quality beef and vegetables simmered gently in a mixture of Guinness Stout, red wine, seasoning, and spices. We think you will enjoy its hearty, rich, and full flavor.
